Finance Coaching

Coaching and mentoring for finance leaders.

Personalised development for ambitious finance people — one-to-one, from a CFO who has done the job.

What It Is

Coaching from someone who has done the job.

Good finance people don’t plateau because they stop working hard. They plateau because no one around them has done the next job — and can show them the way.

Technical skill earns a finance professional their seat. What carries them further is commercial judgement, the confidence to challenge, and the presence to lead — developed, not examined. Our coaching service pairs your finance people with one of our CFOs, who is also a certified coach: real one-to-one development from someone who has sat in the chair and built finance functions through the very transitions they’re facing.

It is not generic leadership training. It is mentoring grounded in the actual work — the board pack due Friday, the difficult conversation, the cashflow under pressure — delivered for a single individual, or rolled out across an entire finance team.

Who It’s For

Built for finance people on the way up.

One programme, several people who benefit: the individual gaining a mentor who has done the job, the employer gaining a stronger finance hand, and the organisation gaining a finance team that develops faster than it could on its own.

The individual.

Stepping up — first board pack, first team to manage, first time owning the forecast. You want a sounding board who has been there, and honest, confidential feedback on how to reach the next level.

The employer.

You have a genuinely good finance person you want to keep, stretch and promote — and would rather develop the talent you trust than carry the cost and risk of recruiting over them.

Heads of Talent, HR & L&D.

Finance-specific development — led by someone who has actually done the roles — for succession and retention across a finance function. Scales from one mentee to a whole-team contract.

The Programme

Twelve sessions. One trusted mentor.

We commonly deliver coaching in blocks of twelve one-hour sessions — long enough to build real trust, work through live challenges as they happen, and turn insight into changed behaviour. Each block is scoped to the person and reviewed against agreed goals, so the development is visible to the individual and to whoever is backing them.

A typical block builds:

I. Commercial judgement.

Reading the business behind the numbers, and knowing which battles to pick.

II. Board & investor communication.

Presenting with clarity and conviction, and holding the room under questioning.

III. Leading a finance team.

Delegation, standards, and building a finance function that scales with the business.

IV. Influence without authority.

Challenging founders and peers constructively — the skill that defines a trusted finance leader.

One Person, or the Whole Team

An individual, or a team-wide contract.

A block can be commissioned for a single individual, or extended across a finance function as a single team-wide contract — each person paired with a mentor and scoped to their own goals, under one engagement. It’s an excellent way to invest in yourself, in an ambitious finance person who needs to move up, or in the development of an entire finance team.

Why WrightCFO

Mentored by a practice, not a freelancer.

Your finance person isn’t coached by a lone consultant working in isolation. WrightCFO is a practice of eleven Chartered Accountants who meet weekly to stress-test each other’s client work. The CFO who mentors them is also a certified coach — and brings the collective experience of the whole practice to every session.

Deep M&A, fundraising, board and international experience, applied one-to-one to the person in front of them. The kind of mentor bigger companies can offer their finance talent — available to yours.

Common Questions

FAQs.

Who is the coaching for?

Ambitious finance people at any stage of the climb — from a capable Finance Assistant or Finance Manager through Financial Controller, Head of Finance and Finance Director, to a newly appointed CFO. Anyone whose responsibility is outpacing their experience and who wants to close that gap deliberately.

Who delivers the coaching?

One of our CFOs who is also a certified business coach — someone who has held senior finance roles and built finance functions through the transitions your team member is facing. It is mentoring from a practitioner, not generic management training.

Can you coach our whole finance team?

Yes. The programme works for a single individual or as a team-wide contract across an entire finance function — each person paired with a mentor and scoped to their own goals, under one engagement. It’s a practical route to succession, retention and consistent standards across the team.

How is it structured?

We commonly deliver coaching in blocks of twelve one-hour, one-to-one sessions, held confidentially. Goals are agreed at the outset — with the individual, and where relevant the employer — and progress is reviewed through the block.

How much does it cost?

Coaching is scoped and priced to the engagement — a single block for one person, or a team-wide contract. We’ll talk it through on the discovery call and quote against what you need.
